The Touri are a race of halflings (so named because they are half the size of the other races, averaging between 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 feet tall) who have lived among the other races for all of recorded history. They had a homeland within the Bohdon expanses, once, but forsook it on the order of their strange god Chiura, allegedly to avoid an unnamed disaster that will ever remain such (as it did not befall them).

Touri tend to form small communities and villages close to human settlements. They frequently employ themselves in work that adult humans could not perform, such as cleaning the inside of confined spaces, sweeping chimneys or doing fine embroidery requiring minute detail work. In turn, they benefit from the human community for protection and resources. Even so, Touri are well understood to frequently be more than a little off-kilter, and are regarded with some degree of suspicion and a conservative sort of welcome.

Known especially for their playful duplicitous natures, Touri have, by far, most likely of any of the civilized races to be adventurers (though, owing to their relatively scarcity, they make up a minority of the total adventuring population).

Real-World Comparison

The Touri can be seen as an analogue of Jewish or Polish migrant populations throughout the industrializing world; they satisfy certain labor needs and fill a niche within the labor pool, but still focus on seamless integration while maintaining a sense of cultural identity and heritage.
