Lok of Katapesh was a slave, forced by the Gnolls of the Brazen Peaks to serve them and their excavation needs. One night, however, a Great God came from the lands above and freed Lok and his people, giving them their freedom and fire, but no real direction other than, "Come follow me and worship!" So Lok and his people did.

They followed Chazzandarious to the land above, and Lok followed the teachings of Chazzandarious for a time. Lok wanted to spread the Word of this living god, travelling to the port city of Katapesh to spread the good news. Many found it hard to listen to a goblin, even one who could speak common, madly shouting exaltation of the God Chazzandarious. Lok, in turn, found it hard to find food or shelter. For several days, Lok worked diligently at spreading the news of his newfound God. Lok prayed out to Chazzandarious, at the very same moment a barrel of fish tipped over before him. Wide eyed, Lok grinned and uttered a simple, "Thank you, brave one and began his feast.

Once inside the barrel, however, Lok at his fill and fell asleep beneath the fish. He was surprised to be awakened by being pulled forth from the barrel, but the hand pulling him forth was MORE surprised when Lok bit off several of his fingers. The unfortunate conclusion of this was Lok being a slave once again.

The merchants from Katapesh, in turn, transferred ownership to slavers from Cheliax, who exported him to the farthest reached of the world, fitted with a proper muzzle.
