Table Sorting

All the tables should be pivoting correctly now. You'll notice I indexed the sort to consider "Fine" a 1, etc., "Colossal" a 9. I also changed the sorting on the Terrain table. --ryecatcher15

Same and Different

I think it might be helpful to have an aside somewhere to highlight the difference between this system and the one used in Ultimate Campaign.

I agree. But how to go about stating it? My suggestion for everyone is going to be that they read this, and reference only this, as the differences are substantial. I will, at some point, put that in here.

I just feel as though it's likely (almost certain) that all your players will have read the rules already. At the very least, it seems like you should be able to direct us to the general idea of changes you have made. I feel that the GM note you included does this to some degree.

I have two problems with that. Number one: The changes are either striking and completely different or are subtle and pervasive. It is difficult to nail down exactly what is different and how much. Honestly, a list of all the relevant changes would probably be longer in explanation and detail than just the rules themselves.

And two (and this may cause you a bit of rage): Most of the people that I have told about this have not actually looked at the rules for kingdom building. As far as people being thrown for a loop, aside from the kingmaker game group, most of the players I'm going to have don't know the game. Some of them don't know Pathfinder.

I honestly can't think of a good way of drawing attention to the changes beyond just telling people "read the rules here". I will give it thought of course, but I can't promise anything.

CR vs. ACR / Carryovers

Challenge Rating (CR): Challenge Rating is used to determine the general effectiveness of an individual. For purposes of these rules, the most rudimentary troop recruited to fight in an army is a CR 1. As previously stated, this means that a basic army requires 100 individual troops before it can be considered an army. The CR of individual troops you can recruit is based on the size of your kingdom, as well as the buildings you have constructed. DM's Note: This is a carry over from the Pathfinder rules set that this system is based off of.

Can you explain the significance of this to me?? How is this a carry over? Is this line obsoleted by something else? Is CR something other than ACR?

That was a carry over from a previous mental incarnation wherein everything was going to be simplified down to ACR. I fixed the issue. To clarify: yes CR is different than ACR. And not just semantically, but in a meaningful way. Check the special abilities for more details. --LordNightmare

Pillaging and Burning

Shouldn't this (explicitly) increase Unrest? The loss of the hex is, of course, the same as the cost of 1 BP, but even so it seems that pillaging should be more serious a problem. Consider, also, that if you already wanted to abandon the hex, this is currently a more attractive choice if you have an ally / enemy who shares a mutual enemy who wants to pay 1 less BP.

Hypothetical 1 - A cannibal army may pillage actively at the edge of an enemy's kingdom in a symbiotic relationship, with that kingdom claiming adjoining hexes alternately. In return, the kingdom claiming the hexes may well benefit from the deterrence of a mutual enemy at no significant penalty.

Hypothetical 2 - Even presuming that Unrest is used in this manner, the cannibal(ize) ability is likely too powerful. A size Colossal army, for example, could STILL pillage alternatingly reclaimed hexes on behalf of another kingdom and the cost of reclaiming a hex and recouping the Unrest would still be significantly less than the cost of sustaining the army by normal means.

I believe that there is a more elegant solution that just saying, "That would not be allowed." --ryecatcher15

Subverting a Claimed Hex

I feel like your method of doling out Unrest is poorly considered. You sometimes dole out Unrest when it doesn't seem warranted, fail to dole it out when it seems obvious, and more perplexingly, sometimes seem to treat it like some sort of Kingdom HP to be damaged when its effects are far-reaching and 20 points of it is enough to destroy any Kingdom. --ryecatcher15
