A Dwarf Fortress Succession Game is one wherein players take turns running the fortress, typically trading off each year. It is customary for each player to choose a Dwarf (or several Dwarves) and write up the events of the year from that dwarf's perspective. It is also considered customary to try to be consistent with the vision of each player.
